Raskin Campaign Announces "Thrilling" New Endorsement from State Senator Susan Lee
June 2, 2015
SILVER SPRING, MD – State Senator Jamie Raskin’s campaign for Congress in Maryland's Eighth District announced yet another big endorsement today, this one from Senator Susan Lee (D-16).
Senator Lee, the former president of the Maryland Women’s Caucus, has represented District 16 (Bethesda, Chevy Chase, Friendship Heights, Potomac, Rockville, Cabin John and Glen Echo) since 2002 as both a Delegate and a Senator. She is known as a passionate advocate for women and families, leading the charge to pass an aggressive legislative agenda to fight domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking. Senator Lee, who represents the largest pocket of Democratic primary voters in the 8th District, joins her District 16 Senate predecessor, Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh, in supporting Raskin’s candidacy. Raskin has also received endorsements from colleagues who, along with Raskin, represent most Democratic voters in the Eighth District: Senator Karen Montgomery (D-14), Senator Rich Madaleno (D-18), and Senator Ron Young (D-3).
“Jamie has been a remarkable partner in the Senate and I know he will be an incredibly respected and beloved leader in Congress,” said Senator Susan Lee. “Jamie has taken on all the hard fights and won them, building teamwork and coalitions. He has been my key ally on issues that affect women, families, seniors, and children. I’m honored and thrilled to support his campaign for Congress because we need someone in Washington who can represent all the different communities within this diverse district and communicate our shared vision with unsurpassed eloquence and effectiveness. I will be campaigning hard for Jamie Raskin!”
“It is an honor beyond measure to receive the endorsement of Senator Susan Lee, a devoted and engaged public servant who works overtime every day to pursue the best interests of all of Marylanders,” said Senator Jamie Raskin, who received the endorsement at an event with Lee supporters in Rockville. “Families in District 16 trust Susan Lee to fight for them every day, and I am honored to have her trust, her ideas, and her participation as we build this bottom-up campaign to make sweeping change in Washington and real progress in America."
